My gut says no! Argon doesn't mix or react with anything... nitrogen does react.

Can be used for shielding in Laser Welding and Plasma Cutting. It can be used as part of a gas mix for really special procedures. Welding steel; Hard "No No".

I thinks its also allowable for purge gas during post-heat but not sure on the specifics. N2 is inert at room temp but once you strike an arc...all bets are off.

After a little research I discovered the reason for a nitrogen mix with argon. Nitrogen plasma burns hotter which makes sense for welding copper due to its exceptional thermal conductivity. It's just like adding helium to argon for welding aluminum.
