What’s shown is a brass ring gear from an elevator machine. It appears to be some kind of weld but nothing I’ve ever seen before. Any thoughts?

That looks kind of like a mig weld with no shielding gas.... almost looks correct but all those huge voids can't be the way it was meant to be. That's pretty crazy looking

Yeah, I thought so too and that’s only a small portion of the ring. It’s like that all the way around. It’s working though, so I’m leaving it alone. BTW, is this the famous JD Brewer?

Yeah, even if it's "wrong" sometimes it's better to leave it alone.
