Hey Roy!
Once again, congrats on the new gig. I'd like to express my appreciation for your willingness to share your experience during this transition. This type of information holds high value and is often overlooked. It's not all "stacking dimes" and "slick beads" when navigating the welding business. I'd dare to say most of these types of lessons hold weight as an employee or business owner.
I like to think we are all here to build our skill sets...Being professional is a skill, and like everything else, takes practice and dedication to become great at it.
Thanks,
BV
P.S. The "Flavor Of The Month" is: 5S (Fun fact:5S signifies one big shift long 'sigh' for every day of the work week.🤣)
Hey Brian,
Glad you enjoyed the Exit Interview FMF. It is something that needs to be said and something that everyone should know about getting into the industry. I'm sure there isn't a section in welding school about how to leave a company for another opportunity. There might be and there should be but... No one wants to talk about it.
I actually like 5S and 6S stuff but the biggest problem is companies always want to do them but never want to take the time to do it right. There is a book call 2 Second Lean by Paul Akers that really dives deep into how it should be done. (https://paulakers.net/books/2-second-lean) You can download the audio version for free here. I enjoyed it because it's nice to see a company putting there money where their mouth is. You'll laugh in spots when you see/hear how your company is doing it wrong.
I'm sure you have gemba boards up and managers doing gemba walks....
