What would be the best tungsten to tig weld mild steel?

Honestly now this is just my opinion. For DC TIG, Thoriated is 100% just fine. It works and works well.

I've pretty thoroughly tested 2% lanth, 1.5% lanth, E3, tri-mix and ceriated tungsten electrodes on DC and I honestly cannot tell one from the other based on their performance.
I think a good clean ground tip is the thing that really matters when it comes to tungsten on DC

I've noticed more variation in performance on AC rather than DC. I run a pretty mixed bag of LayZr, E3, 2% lanth and ceriated. If I can keep the tungsten from losing the fencing match with the filler rod they all do just fine.
