I am new to welding. Working on mig welding with a new sealed roll of gasless flux core wire .030 from Forney. There is still one third of the wire left on the 2 pound roll. I started having trouble with the wire twisting as it comes off the roll. I took the roll off, held it in my hand, pulled off about 4 feet and it wound up and looks like a stretched slinky. This started with the roll that came on the welder. Any ideas before this machine ends up as a boat ankor. Thanks Steve
I would try a different brand of wire before I made a boat anchor. Wire brand makes a huge difference in performance. For a 2 pound roll I would try Lincoln or Hobart. I would also check the drive roll tension to make sure it's not excessive and crimping the wire. The other tension to check is your roll retention, too loose and it will let the wire unspool and make a mess, too tight and it will bind the wire into the spool.
